The heel height is measured to the inside of the heel and not the back. When you purchase a 2 3/4 inch heel it actually measures closer to 3 inches.

A good rule of thumb is to add a 1/2 inch to each listed heel height. Also note that the heel height gets higher proportionally as the shoe gets larger.
